Another Loss

The family of Daina Odoyo, CGA's Nursery Teacher, buried her husband Peter Odoyo today. He passed away on April 10th after a long battle with cancer. He was only 48 at the time of his death. Odoyo was the Deputy Headteacher at Mbita High School where he had taught for 22 years as a Kiswahili Teacher. He was very active in sports throughout his time teaching, and also led the Scouts in the area as well as being a National Exam marker and head of the school's Christian Union. He also served with the Gideon's International and was a Pastor of a local church in Rusinga.

He is survived by his wife Daina, 1 son Benjamin who is in his 2nd year of high school and 3 daughters Beatrice (studying nursing), Perpetua (7th grade at CGA) and Miracle (1st grade at CGA).

Peter was a great friend of CGA and took good care of over 20 of our boys who were attending Mbita High School. His wife has worked at CGA since its inception and three of his children have attended CGA. In addition to that, he always had positive words to describe the work of CGA and how it is helping orphans within the community. He had a deep passion for our work because he was also orphaned at an early age and had well-wishers that helped him finish his basic education. Because of their support during his formative years he was able to earn a bachelor's degree and eventually a master's degree.

Peter will be forever remembered for his strength, selfless determination, love, care and understanding that poured whole-heartedly into his family, church, school and community. He will be missed dearly by all those whose lives he touched.
